ISOCYANATE & AMINE EXPOSURE

This analysis can be used to determine the exposure to: 4.4'-Methylenediphenyl Diisocyanate (4.4'-MDI), 1.5-Naphthalene Diisocyanate (1.5-NDI), 2.4-Toluene Diisocyanate (2.4-TDI), 2.6-Toluene Diisocyanate (2.6-TDI), 1.6-Hexamethylene Diisocyanate (1.6-HDI), Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI) and their related amines.

Please contact us prior to sending your sample for testing, in order to obtain further sampling information and the proper submission form for this analysis.

Please collect the samples and send them together with the submission form to either our postal address or our delivery address.

The submission form should always be sent together with the samples. Complete one submission form for each of the samples. Test tubes and corresponding submission form should be clearly labelled. The samples should be carefully packed for shipment in, for example, sealed capsules packed in padded envelopes. The entire package should be labelled and shipped in accordance with local and national regulations. Please notify the laboratory in advance when samples are being sent.

Analysis

Exposure to 4.4'-Methylenediphenyl Diisocyanate (4.4'-MDI), 1.5-Naphthalene Diisocyanate (1.5-NDI), 2.4-Toluene Diisocyanate (2.4-TDI), 2.6-Toluene Diisocyanate (2.6-TDI), 1.6-Hexamethylene Diisocyanate (1.6-HDI) and Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI) is determined by measuring the amounts of the related amine.

Routine Analysis

The routine analysis package measures the contents of the following amines: 4.4'-Methylene Dianiline (4.4'-MDA), 1.5-Naphthalene Diamine (1.5-NDA), 2.4-Toluene Diamine (2.4-TDA), 2.6-Toluene Diamine (2.6-TDA), 1.6-Hexamethylene Diamine (1.6-HDA) and Isophorone Diamine (IPDA).

Express Service

Urgent samples may be processed immediately upon arrival at the laboratory, after prior agreement with the laboratory. The charge for the express service is twice the standard charge.

Analysis

S-phenylmercapturic acid (S-PMA) is one of the most widely used biomarkers of benzene exposure. Since there are no other substances, exogenous or endogenous, known to be metabolized to S-PMA except benzene, the excretion of this metabolite can only be attributed to benzene exposure.

The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) recommends a biological exposure index (BEI®) of 25 µg/g creatinine in the end-shift urine of workers when assessing occupational exposure to benzene [1].
